Give and ye shall receive

Monkeychild and I had a bit of a clear out recently and on Friday I took a few toys etc. down to our favourite
charity shop, one of six on our local High Street. Husband and I were treated quite rudely in one of these shops when we took in some items last year; they didn't even say thanks, but brusquely asked us to take our bags of donations "out the back" to their store room. So we thought "never again" and ever since have taken our unwanted bits and bobs to another shop a few doors down where they're a far more friendly bunch.

Anyway, I digress.

After dropping off the toys, I thought I'd have a mooch around the remaining charity shops and was rewarded by finding this gorgeous and immaculate Welsh wool tapestry coat. Although its a tad big on me, it was love at first sight and I just had to have it.

  1. You look absolutely stunning. What a gorgeous coat, I love the brooch, too. I bought one before Xmas and realised I'd got far too many and sold it for £60 on eBay.
Some charity shop volunteers are so rude to people who are good enough to donate. All my leftovers go to the Salvation Army as the ladies are so kind to me. xxx

  2. Thanks for your lovely comment Vix. Yeah, there are some miserable people out there; I don't expect a profusion of thanks, only common courtesy. I take all my stuff to the local hospice charity shop now as at least I know they appreciate it.

  3. Beautiful coat. I have the exact same brooch as you (Will & Acorn?). And I agree with you a little common courtesy is definitely what is required.

  6. Nice coat indeed. I recently took possession of a nice tweed jacket for my work. Wool, you can't beat it.
PS. Rude charity shop workers, I have found, is not an unusual phenomenon, unfortunately.

  7. LandGirl - can't say I blame you - the brooches are fab and they do them in lots of nice colours too! Let me know which colour(s) you buy!

Lost Jimmy - so, the grumpy charity shop worker is not exclusive to my local R*d C***s chazza shop then?!

  10. gah, i've come across snappy charity shop staff before aswell. I have no clue why they look like a smacked bum half the time :/ they should be happy, they're doing something positive by working in a charity shop!

    beautiful coat! xx

  11. Yeah you're right Carmen. Also as far as I'm aware, the majority of the shop staff are volunteers who do it out of kindness and support the charity, so the grumpy rude ones are actually doing the charity a dis-service as it puts people off.

  12. Went into a local charity shop with my sister recently where the staff are always rude. The two women behind the counter were being venomous, but for once to each other and not the customers we were weeping with laughter at their conversation.

Lovely jacket it looks fab on you. x

  13. Hi Miss M, thanks for that - it made me laugh, I bet it was sheer comedy value for the customers. Guess what though? I've been naughty this morning ;-) (I blame it on having to nip out to the post office to send out a certain parcel!) I went back into the same charity shop and brought a vintage leopard print coat - its at the cleaners at the mo' so will be ready for the weekend! Can't wait!
